Spain
Gaudí, flamenco & the late-night art of living
Spain runs on a different clock — lunch at three, dinner at ten, streets full of grandmothers and children at midnight — and adjusting to it is the whole secret. Fight the rhythm and you'll find shuttered restaurants and empty squares; surrender to it and you've joined the best-run society for pleasure in Europe.
Beyond the rhythm, the range: Gaudí's melting cathedrals in Barcelona, the Alhambra's carved paradise in Granada, green fjord-like rías in Galicia, and a tapas culture in which an entire national cuisine is served one saucer at a time. Pick two regions per trip; Spain punishes rushing more than most.
Surrender to the Spanish clock and you've joined the best-run society for pleasure in Europe.
Don't Miss
The Unmissables

The Sagrada Família
A century in the building and finally nearing its spires' completion — Gaudí's basilica is the one "must-see" on Earth that over-delivers. Book the earliest slot with tower access; the light through the stained glass before 10am is a religious experience regardless of your religion.
Madrid's golden triangle & midnight streets
Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen within ten walking minutes — then La Latina's tapas crawl until the small hours. Madrid has no beach and no Gaudí; what it has is the best pure city life in Europe.
Barcelona between mountain and sea
The Eixample's perfect grid from above, Gothic Quarter alleys below, and Barceloneta's sand a metro ride from it all. Go up Bunkers del Carmel at sunset with a bag of olives and watch the whole city turn gold.
Plaza life & the paseo
Every Spanish town, whatever its size, performs the evening paseo: the slow, social walk to nowhere. Find the plaza mayor, order a caña and a ración, and watch three generations negotiate the same square. This is Spain's true national monument.
