Table Mountain & the Cape
Ride the rotating cable car (or hike Platteklip Gorge) above a city pinned between mountain and two oceans. Then drive the peninsula: Chapman's Peak's cliff road, Boulders Beach's penguins, and the Cape of Good Hope where the map runs out.
The Big Five on safari
Kruger self-drive is the budget classic; the private reserves on its flank (Sabi Sands, Timbavati) are the splurge — off-road tracking, walking safaris, leopards habituated to vehicles. Dawn drives, dusk drives, and the bush's total darkness between.
Camps Bay & the Atlantic seaboard
White sand under the Twelve Apostles' buttresses, sundowners as the Atlantic turns to fire — Cape Town's beach strip does glamour without trying. The water is Benguela-cold; the scene never is.
The Winelands
Stellenbosch and Franschhoek: Cape Dutch estates under granite mountains, tastings at pocket prices, and some of the southern hemisphere's best restaurants attached. The wine-tram day in Franschhoek is the civilized way to overdo it.
