Egypt
Pyramids, pharaohs & the eternal Nile
No destination on Earth carries the mythic weight of Egypt. The pyramids are older to Cleopatra than Cleopatra is to us — and standing before them, that math becomes physical. Five thousand years of civilization stacked along one green river through the desert.
Modern Egypt asks patience — the hustle is real — but rewards it extravagantly: dawn at Giza, Tutankhamun's gold, felucca sails at sunset, and the Red Sea's aquarium reefs.
The pyramids are older to Cleopatra than Cleopatra is to us.
Don't Miss
The Unmissables
Giza at dawn
Be at the gate at opening: the Great Pyramid with no crowds, camels silhouetted on the dune ridge, Cairo's haze burning off behind the Sphinx.
Luxor's west bank
The Valley of the Kings' painted tombs, Hatshepsut's temple against the cliffs, and hot-air balloons drifting over it all at sunrise.
Saqqara & the pyramid fields
Beyond Giza: Djoser's step pyramid (the world's oldest stone building), Dahshur's Bent Pyramid, and desert horizons with no tour buses in sight.
Abu Simbel
Ramses II's colossi carved into a Nubian cliff — then moved, block by block, above the rising lake in the 1960s. Both feats astonish.
Timing Is Everything
When to Go

Winter
Peak season: perfect 22°C days in Luxor, cool desert nights, book cruises ahead.
Spring
Warming but fine; occasional khamsin dust winds.
Summer
Upper Egypt exceeds 45°C. Only the Red Sea coast makes sense.
