About Globe Trail Guide

About · Our Story

We write travel for the curious, not the crowd.

Globe Trail Guide is an independent travel publication built on one belief: the world is more interesting than the top-ten list. We write the guides we wish existed when we were planning our own trips — unhurried, specific, and honest.

Our mission

To help travelers experience the world in a way that’s thoughtful, informed, and a little more off the beaten path. We focus on the small decisions that make a trip memorable — which neighborhood to stay in, which train to take, which meal is worth a detour — and leave the generic bucket lists to everyone else.

What we stand for

Independence

We pay our own way. No sponsored trips disguised as journalism, no paid placements dressed up as recommendations. If we like something, we’ll tell you why. If we don’t, we’ll tell you that too.

Specificity

Names of streets, names of dishes, names of neighborhoods. Generic advice helps no one. We obsess over the practical details that actually change how your trip feels on the ground.

Respect

Places are not products. We write about destinations in a way that respects the people who live there, the ecosystems that support them, and the travelers who come after you.

Meet the Trail Score™

Every destination on Globe Trail Guide is scored across four dimensions so you can see at a glance whether a place is right for the trip you actually want to take. No ten-point hot takes — just an honest profile you can weigh against your own priorities.

01 · Authenticity

How much of the place still feels like itself vs. packaged for visitors.

02 · Accessibility

How easy it is to get there, get around, and navigate without a guide.

03 · Adventure

How much the destination rewards curiosity, effort, and going off-script.

04 · Affordability

What you’ll realistically spend to experience the place well, not just survive it.

Editorial standards

Every destination guide on Globe Trail Guide is either written from first-hand experience or fact-checked against primary sources. We disclose when a piece is based on a short visit versus an extended stay. We update guides when things change, and we mark them with the date of the latest revision so you always know how fresh the advice is.

We don’t use AI to write the substance of our articles. We use it for research, outlines, and quality checks — then a human writes the story. If we ever change that policy, we’ll tell you.

How we make money

Globe Trail Guide is supported by display advertising (Google AdSense), affiliate partnerships with hotel and transport booking platforms, and readers who chip in through our newsletter. Affiliate links never influence what we recommend — we choose the recommendation first, then add the link second. See our Privacy Policy for details on how advertising works on the site.

Say hello
